People have been asking why their comments were falsely identified by the system as spam. Since Akismet is not open-source and owned by Automattic, the algo and codes have not been seen by the public. We know the general idea but specific triggers are unknown.

Ive read something about Akismet and I would like to share this:

“What we really want to know is how good is Akismet at figuring out what is spam and what isn’t it. It can fail to two ways. The first way to to let items that should have been marked as spam through, we’ll call that a miss. The other way it can fail is to identify a valid comment/trackback/pingback as spam, lets call that a false hit. So here is the break down for the last 31 days with 1600 plus pieces of spam processed via Akismet:

1. Misses: 23 (~ 1.4375 percent)
2. False Hits: 3 (~ 0.1875 percent)

Akismit is no doubt the best plugin available for bloggers to help them in dealing spam comments on their blogs. It is specially very important for those bloggers who maintain multiple blogs but wants to encourage comments with a dofollow link or a top commentators plugin – it obviously saves their precious time by automatically keeping out spam. Being a software it does have its own drawbacks but it is the best available. Thanks for the informative post – it cleared some of my doubts about Akismit.
